The shapes come from a 19th century photo taken in the direction of Al Aqsa mosque. The colours come from the domes of a refurbished Marmaluke palace I visited in Jerusalem 3 years ago.

The Dome of the Rock is not a mosque for public worship but rather a shrine for pilgrims. Believed to be the site of Adam’s birth, Abraham’s sacrifice of his son, the Temple and the Prophet’s night journey.
